How long does it take to get used to full dentures?

Most patients adapt to full dentures within 4–8 weeks. During this time, you may experience increased saliva flow, minor soreness, and difficulty speaking or eating. These issues resolve as your mouth adjusts. Follow-up adjustments are a normal part of the process.

Can I sleep with my dentures in?

It is recommended to remove dentures at night to allow the gum tissue to rest and to clean the dentures. Sleeping with dentures increases the risk of fungal infections and accelerates bone resorption.

What is an immediate denture?

An immediate denture is fabricated before your remaining teeth are extracted and placed the same day as the extractions. This means you are never without teeth. However, as the gums heal and shrink, the immediate denture will need to be relined or replaced with a permanent denture after 6–12 months.

How do I clean my dentures?

Remove dentures after meals and rinse with water. Brush daily with a soft denture brush and mild soap or denture cleaner (not toothpaste, which is too abrasive). Soak overnight in a denture solution. Handle carefully to avoid dropping.

Complete Tooth Replacement for Edentulous Patients

Full (complete) dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower arch. They consist of a flesh-colored acrylic base that fits over the gums, with artificial teeth attached. Upper dentures are held in place by suction against the palate; lower dentures rest on the gum ridge and are generally less stable.
